"You're gonna need a bigger boat"

2 notes and you have a villain. Go to www.jawsmovie.com/jsounds/jaws2.wav to hear it if you don't know what I'm talking about. The Jaws theme is probably one of the simplest, but most inspired creations in the history of music, let alone film music. It can instantly warn us of danger by implying the shark's presence even when we can't see it on screen.
I totally love the 1st Jaws movie by the way. It actually came out the summer I was born which means we are both 33 years old. We totally arrived in this world at about the same time (which might explain some things about me but that's a different story). It was totally ahead of its time. There are some really funny quotes in it as well as being a good action/horror movie. Stuff like:

Quint: "Here lies the body of Mary Lee ... died at the age of 103 ... for 15 years she kept her virginity ... not a bad record for this vicinity"

Hooper: "Uh ... I think that I'm familiar with the fact that you are going to ignore this problem until it swims up and bites you in the ass"

Quint again: "You go inside the cage, cage goes in the water, you go in the water, shark's in the water ... our shark"

and of course Brody said the line in the title of this blog. Anyway... I saw this pic on the I CAN HAS CHEEZEBURGER website and when I was done laughing until I peed a little, I thought I would share it. Enjoy!

Darkness & Light

From other blog, posted 3/3/08

When I was leaving work tonight, there was too much traffic for me to get turned around so I went the long way. The long way takes me down Harbor Ave right past a great view of downtown. The buildings and the sky looked so cool I just had to stop and take some pictures (which don't do it justice but you get the idea).

Scratchy Scratchy

I do scratch-board sketches every once in awhile. I like the chalkboard quality you can get with certain blades as well as the inverted inked quality others get. I also kinda like that if you mess up, you either start again or you deal with it. An artist friend of mine told me recently that there is something you can use to fill back in the scratches but I kinda see that as cheating. I don't remember doing them before college but I have been doing them at least since then. Below are some of them.

I just finished this one. It is a portrait of Tony (the guy in NY that I'm writing to) even though I don't know what he looks like.

I think I did this one last summer. I call it "Catscratch".

This one is from college... I call it "Jack & the Moon". I scanned it into my computer back then, added some color where the white is and put the title on the fence. I meant it to be the cover illustration for a kid's book.

Also from college... it is "Flowerface"

I've done others of course. You might have seen my "bassment" one in another blog. I also tend to give them away. A teachery one for my sister, portrait of her cat for Amy, an "O is for Owl" for Darby and a penguin for Sarah and so on. I need to learn to scan them before I give them away of course. It's funny that I have done so many people and animals in scratch as I don't paint either very often. hummmm.... something to think about.

Things I’ve learned this weekend

1) you cannot blow-dry your hair and microwave something at the same time in my apartment.

2) the fuse box in my apartment is behind the frig.

3) no one in the history of my apartment has swept behind the frig.

4) the plug-ends = #5 on the top 10 reasons I hate my apartment.

thats about it.

Words

I like words. I like how everyone has their own lexicons. I like how each language has its quirks. I like scrabble and other such word games. I like... well you get my point... so when I'm bored I usually play such games or just look at word-type things on the web (like word of the days). I came across this and thought I would share. It was found at http://otterdance.livejournal.com . I especially like the last one.

The Washington Post's Style Invitational invited readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are this year's winners:

1. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

2. Foreploy (v): Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid.

3. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.

4. Giraffiti (n): Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

5. Sarchasm (n): The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

6. Inoculatte (v): To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

7. Hipatitis (n): Terminal coolness.

8. Osteopornosis (n): A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

9. Karmageddon (n): its like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

10 Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

11. Glibido (v): All talk and no action.

12. Dopeler effect (n): The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

13. Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

14. Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

15. Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you're eating.

16. Ignoranus (n): A person who's both stupid and an asshole.

Starting Off

So, I decided I needed a blog of my very own. Somewhere to jot down the ramblings in my head so to speak. And I am going to start writing this guy in NY as soon as he writes me. I may share our back and forth here as well. And some sketches. And whatever I feel like basically.
